Yuletide: Rumbles in FRSC over unpaid salaries

Published

on

There are loud murmurings by the Staff of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC). Those who would be manning various federal highways nationwide this Christmas season may be doing so with empty stomach. FRSC personnel are among the Federal Government agencies and parastatals, which have not been paid their November salaries.

An official of the agency, who pleaded anonymity, told New Telegraph: “We were told that we should expect our salary from January 5 (next year). So, we have to borrow to celebrate this Christmas.” He said they have not been told why their November salaries were delayed. FRSC is the only military and paramilitary agency that is yet to be paid November salary. “All the military and paramilitary staff have been paid.

There are rumours that we have overspent our current expenditure,” he explained. The official said there were rumours of illegal recruitment of between 300 to 400 people, who were paid from the current budget of the commission with the hope that there would be a supplementary budget.

“The supplementary budget did not come and you know the SGF (Secretary to the Government of the Federation) whom we report to is in trouble.
