Zidane skeptical of La Liga, despite lead

Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, has said his side’s current six-point lead over Barcelona in the Spanish league doesn’t make much of a difference as there is still a long way to go before the end of the season.

He said this while speaking at a promotional event for a sportswear. Although he expressed his happiness with the Blancos’ results of late, he also warned that it doesn’t guarantee the League title.

“We’re first and we are happy with the results we have been getting but there are a lot of games left to play and a lot left for us to do if we are to achieve what we’ve set out to do. A six-point lead at this stage doesn’t mean anything, it doesn’t mean we’re going to win the league,” he said.

The Frenchman, who led his side to a second place in the group stage of the European League, was also asked about whether he could lead the Galacticos to become the first ever side to win the Champions League twice in a row.

“We’ll try and do it, that’s our job. What we want to do is play football and the Champions League is an important objective; on Monday, we’ll see who we are drawn against. There is a very long way to go to get to the final. The players have been doing superbly until now,” he added.

As Real Madrid prepare to go to Tokyo for the FIFA Club World Championship, the former France midfielder also stated that playing in Japan makes him reminisce the good memories.

“It brings back a lot of good memories for me. We won a lot of things in Japan and it’s a country where Madrid has a lot of fans – it’s also a country where we would love to make history by winning something important.

“We have the chance to do that in this Club World Cup but first we have a game on Saturday to play and we are going to try to win both of those matches for all of the people who are behind this great club,” he concluded.

Real Madrid are currently leading the league table with 34 points after matchday 14, and are 6 points clear their nearest rivals, Barcelona.
