1. #Sexforgrades: Buhari asks victims of sexual abuse to speak out

President Muhammadu Buhari has added his voice to the #Sexforgrades scandal currently rocking the University of Lagos, asking families of victims of sexual abuse to always speak out and not cover-up such things. The President, who joined other Nigerians who have condemned the scandal involving a lecturer at the University, following a report by the BBC, also threw his weight behind the proposed amendment to the laws against sexual harassment of students at tertiary institutions.

2. Buhari bars ministers from embarking on foreign trips

President Muhammadu Buhari has placed a temporary ban on foreign travels by all members of his cabinet and heads of government agencies. This was announced Friday evening by Willie Bassey, the director of information in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The suspension of foreign travels, which is with immediate effect, is to enable ministers personally lead the defence of the 2020 budget before the National Assembly.

3. #THEWEDDING: Presidency speaks on Buhari’s rumoured wedding to Sadiya Farouq

The Presidency has dispelled rumours that President Muhammadu Buhari was getting married to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq. Following the continued absence of the First Lady, Aisha, from the Presidential Villa. Social media reports had claimed that Buhari would get married on Friday to Farouq. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, dismissed the report, stressing that the “rumour was a deceptive manoeuvre by those who fabricated the news”.

4. CJN warns against disobedience of court orders

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, on Friday, warned against disobedience to orders issued by courts, adding that such acts of disobedience would attract grave consequences. The CJN gave the warning at the launching of the 9th House of Representatives Legislative Agenda. He was represented by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho. The CJN added that justice must be served without fear or favour while every law must be obeyed.

5. CAS reveals what Nigerian Airforce is doing to defeat Boko Haram

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar, on Friday revealed that the Nigerian Airforce was bridging the gaps in its operations as a way of intensifying the onslaught against Boko Haram terrorists, bandits and other deadly criminals terrorising Nigerians in various parts of the country. Abubakar stated this in Abuja at an interactive session with the Senate and House of Representatives joint committee on Airforce.

6. EDO APC CRISIS: Obaseki talks tough, vows to chase out dissidents

The crisis rocking the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) may be far from over as the state governor, Godwin Obaseki on Friday vowed to chase out dissidents out of the party. The governor made the vow while inaugurating the boards of some agencies in the state.

7. Ex-Gov Lamido speaks on continuous detention of Dasuki

A former governor of Jigawa State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, on Friday spoke on the continuous incarceration of the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki. He spoke on the heels of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa on Thursday. He said he hoped that Jonathan might have used the opportunity of the visit to appeal to Buhari to release Dasuki.

8. EFCC remits N111m recovered from monarchs, civil servant to Kwara gov

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Friday remitted N111, 428, 891 cash recovered from looted funds belonging to Kwara State to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq. The agency said the money was recovered from former political office holders, traditional rulers and top civil servants in the state. The Ilorin Zonal head of the agency, Isyaku Sharu, while handing over the money to the governor said the anti-graft agency began operations in the state in February 2019.

9. Why bad roads now litter Nigeria —Fashola

The minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, on Thursday, gave reasons for the looming bad roads across the country. While addressing the House of Representatives Committee on Works, he stated that the sum of N157 billion was not sufficient to cater for the outstanding debts on road projects. Giving his analysis, Fashola said the amount of unpaid certificates for completed road projects was N306 billion, while N2.93 billion was pending in unpaid certificates under the multilateral-funded projects.

10. Despite intervention by Sports Minister Dare, Dennerby resigns as Falcons coach

Super Falcons head coach, Thomas Dennerby has resigned from his position in the team, despite the efforts of the Sports Minister to reconcile him with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The 60-year-old, who refused to show up for a reconciliation meeting arranged by the Minister Sunday Dare, excused himself from the Super Falcons’ last two games due to the dispute. Dennerby, who led the Falcons to their 9th Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) last year, still has a year left on his contract and should have led the team to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
