President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday in Pretoria, South Africa called on all Nigerians in the Diaspora to always remember their home. While he said that they represented some of the best human assets that Nigeria has with their education and exposure to the world, he urged them to use their “resources, skills and talents to help the development of Nigeria.”

2. Nigeria, South Africa sign 10-year visa agreement to encourage relations between citizens

Nigeria and South Africa have reached an agreement to issue 10-year visas to businessmen, academics and frequent travellers. According to a statement issued on Friday by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, the agreement was reached during a meeting co-chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari and President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa.

3. 2023: Afenifere chieftain backs president of Igbo extraction, says it’s the only condition for unity

An elder statesman and one of the leaders of Afenifere, a Yoruba Socio-political group, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, on Friday said unity would only remain in Nigeria if the South east region of the country was allowed to produce the President in 2023. The lawyer spoke on a programme, the morning show of Arise television. He carpeted President Muhamadu Buhari who he said had not shown concern for the unity of Nigeria as a nation.

4. Buhari’s visit to South Africa over xenophobic attacks disgraceful —HURIWA

The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has been condemned by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), for visiting South Africa over recent xenophobic attacks. HURIWA in a statement issued on Friday said President Buhari’s visit is disgraceful and has exposed Nigeria to international ridicule, thereby cheapening the rating of the country before the eyes of the world.

5. Falana laments Sowore’s bail conditions, says its ‘stringent’

The bail conditions imposed on the convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, by the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Friday has been described as ‘stringent’ by Mr. Femi Falana (SAN). Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu during the court process barred Sowore from addressing any rally pending the conclusion of his trial on charges of treasonable felony, among others, as part of his bail conditions.

6. KADUNA: Abductors of 6 schoolgirls demand N50m ransom

The gunmen who abducted six female students and two staff of Engravers College, Kakau Daji, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have reportedly demanded N50 million ransom. The students and staff were abducted from the Engravers College, a mixed boarding school, in the early hours of Thursday.

7. Political saboteurs disrupting efforts at ending Ebonyi, Benue boundary crisis —Official

The council Chairman of Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi State, Clement Odah Friday alleged that the lingering boundary crisis between Ngbo community and Agila in Benue State, which resulted in the killings of over one hundred persons, was politically motivated. Speaking at his residence in Abakaliki, Odah claimed that the efforts being put in place to end the killings in the area were being deliberately sabotaged.

8. Gunmen invade Zamfara community, kill 9 soldiers

Suspected gunmen on Thursday invaded Sunke village in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State and killed nine soldiers. It was gathered that the unidentified gunmen numbering about 50 stormed the village on motorcycles, firing at the soldiers and Policemen stationed at the community.

9. MINIMUM WAGE: Your threat on nationwide strike is empty, Timi Frank chides labour leaders

A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Timi Frank, on Friday said the current labour in the country were not serious minded over the threat of nationwide strike over their minimum wage negotiation with the Federal Government. Frank said the labour leaders lack the will to fight for their members across the nation as they have been compromised severely.

10. Journalist, Agba Jalingo’s travails continue as court denies him bail

Journalist and critic of the Cross River State government, Agba Jalingo, has been denied bail by a Federal High Court in Calabar, Cross River State. Jalingo was taken into custody on Friday after the court presided over by Justice Simon Amobeda, denied his bail application on the ground that the charges against him were grave with one carrying a capital punishment. He was arrested in Lagos by operatives attached to the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigerian Police on August 22, 2019, and arraigned on September 25, 2019, on a four-count of treasonable felony, terrorism and attempt to topple the Cross River State Government which he pleaded not guilty to.
