1. BOKO HARAM THREAT: Police assure of adequate security in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has assured residents and the banking community in the state of adequate security against alleged threats by the insurgent group, Boko Haram against banks in the state. The spokesman for the command, Femi Joseph, gave the assurance in a statement on Saturday, adding that the command had deployed its men in strategic points in the state to protect lives and property of the people. 2. Buhari’s departure in 2023 might be the end of APC ―Okorocha

The senator representing Imo West, Rochas Okorocha, has expressed doubt in his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), maintaining power beyond 2023. Okorocha who was speaking in reaction to the continued crisis between the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole and the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obasaki, insisted that if nothing was done to address the leadership style of the party, it may not survive after President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure. Okorocha, a former governor of Imo State, made this comment on Saturday in Kano. Read more

3. Gov Dickson dubs oil companies in N’Delta environmental terrorists

The governor of Bayelsa, Seriake Dickson has lamented the activities of oil companies in the state, and the entire Niger Delta region. He described oil companies in the area as environmental terrorists, who were busy killing the people of the oil region in “instalments and in advance.” The governor, who stated this at the weekend during the presentation of the interim report by the Bayelsa State Oil and Environmental Commission (BSOEC), in Yenagoa, said that one would be shocked to see the difference that exists in the blood sample from a person from the Niger Delta region and a person outside the region. Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has condemned the attack on him, the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, Chancellor of the Edo University, Iyahmo, Dr. Aderemi Makanjuola and other guests at the residence of former Governor of the State and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. The governor, while speaking to newsmen after the incident, described the attack as unfortunate. He added that it was shameful for such an attack to take place at the residence of the National Chairman of the ruling party in the state and at the national level. “It is very unfortunate that we can’t feel safe in the house of our National Chairman. I am not sure that if I visit the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party that they will attack me the way they did in the house of the APC National Chairman.” Read more

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has spoken on the attack on the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki; Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, and Chancellor of the Edo State University, Iyahmo, Dr. Makanjuola, at his (Oshiomhole) country home in Estako West Local Government. The APC chairman, while apologizing to those attacked, alleged that the Deputy Governor of the state, Philip Shaibu had sent the thugs who invaded the university community to carry out the attack. 6. KOGI GUBER: PDP campaign official arrested for illegal possession of firearms

The Chairman of the Security Committee of the Musa/Aro Campaign Organization, ACP Sulaiman Abutu (retd) has been arrested by operatives from the Abuja Police Command for alleged illegal possession of firearms. 7. Nigerian govt names 12 registries statutory marriages can be conducted

The Federal Government, in a bid to put to rest controversies surrounding who has the right to conduct statutory marriage between it and local governments in the country, has named the 12 licensed marriage registries in the country. The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Interior, re-emphasised its position that it was the only tier of government permitted by the constitution to regulate and conduct marriages. 8. ANAMBRA: Gov Obiano calls for prayers against evil spirits in govt house

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has called for prayers to expunge evil spirits in the government house. The governor while speaking on Saturday at the Province of the Niger, Anglican Prayer Rally of Anambra State (APRAS) 2019, admitted that there were evil spirits in the state house that come and go. Obiano, who spoke through the secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwubelu, urged the church to pray for the evil spirits to leave the government house permanently, so that the government can provide quality services to the people. 9. Following widespread rejection, Nigerian Army disowns ‘Operation Positive Identification’

The Nigerian Army has dissociated itself from the infamous exercise code-named ‘Operation Positive Identification’. The purported exercise, which would require Nigerians to show proof of their citizenship to soldiers, had received heavy criticism from different quarters. But, the army in a fresh statement denied the operation saying that the report emanated from a fictitious group, Bricks company, which has nothing to do with the Army. Read more

10. One dead, nine injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway crash

One male adult was confirmed dead while nine others sustained injuries in an accident that occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday morning, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) has said. TRACE spokesman, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, stated this while speaking to newsmen in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, adding that the accident involving a Mazda bus and a Mack tanker occurred at 10:15am near Saapade bridge after Ogere.
