Amosun set to obtain $350m World Bank loan less than a month to handing over

A bill seeking to establish the South West Development Commission has scaled the first reading on the floor of the Senate on Thursday.

The bill was sponsored by the immediate past Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, in conjunction with members of the Red Chamber from the South West geopolitical zone.

Amosun represents Ogun Central Senatorial District.

There had been a clamour for the regional development body after the signing into law of a bill that saw to the establishment of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), for the Northeastern part of the country that had been ravaged for a over a decade with terrorists insurgency.

The NEDC, however, is a borrowed idea from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), an interventionist body meant to ameliorate the effects of oil exploitation and exploration in the Niger Delta region.
