Ballon d'Or 2016: Ronaldo wins award for fourth time

Portugal and Real Madrid forward, Christiano Ronaldo has won the 2016 FIFA Ballon d’Or award on Monday, making it the fourth time after clinching the third in 2014.

Ronaldo, who has so far scored 48 goals in 52 games for club and country in 2016, won the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid in May, and the Euro 2016 with Portugal two months later.

Ronaldo, however, was not able to accept the award in person, as he was away in Japan with his club, Real Madrid for this year’s FIFA Club World Cup.

He received the award earlier, and was quoted to have said: “A great honour to receive my fourth golden ball. The emotion is like the first one. It’s the dream come true again. I never thought in my mind to win the golden ball four times so I’m so pleased and happy. I have the opportunity to thank all my team-mates, the national team, Real Madrid, all the people and players who helped me to win this individual award. So as you can imagine I feel so proud and happy to receive this amazing and beautiful ball.”

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi was runner-up in the Ballon d’Or ranking, Antoine Griezmann came third, Luiz Suarez came fourth, and Neymar, fifth. Then, from 6th to 11th include Gareth Bale, Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy, Pepe, Gianluigi Buffon and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang respectively.
