Gunmen suspected to be bandits reportedly attacked a mosque in Sabon Layi, Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State in the early hours of Tuesday and killed two persons.

The victims were the mosque’s chief imam and a worshipper identified as Kabir.

Two other worshippers were seriously injured in the attack.

A resident of the community told journalists that the attackers stormed the community with sophisticated weapons at about 5:00 a.m. and headed straight to the mosque.

He added that the chief imam was about to begin the day’s prayer when he was shot dead by the marauders.

However, the state police command has not confirmed the incident at the time of filling this report.

The attack on the mosque was the second in Kaduna State in one month.

Bandits on September 2 killed nine worshippers during an attack on a mosque in the Saya-Saya community, Ikara local government area of the state.
