Barcelona extend unbeaten La Liga run with Celta draw

La Liga leaders, Barcelona extended their unbeaten league run to 40 after surviving a scare by Celta Vigo to earn a 2-2 draw on Tuesday night.

The 10-man Ernesto Valverde side missed the chance to extend their La Liga lead, but the result may not have been unexpected as several key players were rested.

Barca had Saturday’s Copa del Rey final against Sevilla in mind, hence the coach started both Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez from the bench.

It was Ousmane Dembele who opened the scoring with his first league goal for the club before Celta’s Jonny tapped in an equaliser.

Paco Alcacer put Barca ahead again after an hour, but a deflection off Iago Aspas levelled both teams again 10 minutes after Sergi Roberto was shown red.

Barcelona lead second-placed Atletico Madrid by 12 points and maintain their unbeaten league record.
