BOKO HARAM: 700 surrender as sect kills 9, abducts 30

The Nigerian Army on Monday said that over 700 members of the Boko Haram terrorist group have surrendered to its troops.

According to Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman, Director Army Public Relations, of the 700, 70 are being profiled, while others are expected to come out from hiding in the coming days.

This is coming, even as reports emanated that suspected Boko Haram militants killed nine people in south-east Niger, and abducted about 30 people, including women and young men.

The militants were said to have arrived on foot in Nglewa village in Kablewa rural municipality some 100 kilometres north of Diffa on Sunday.

Brig Gen Usman in a statement on Monday stated that the sect members surrendered to troops of 26 Task Force Brigade, Nigerian Army, Operation LAFIYA DOLE.

“Preliminary investigation has shown that among them were key commanders and influential members of the terrorists group, one of whom matches suspect number 225 on Boko Haram terrorists most wanted list released by the Nigerian Army.

“So far, the surrendered terrorists have been making useful statements and it is expected that many more of them will surrender”, he stated.

But the terrorist who invaded and abducted villagers were said to have arrived on foot in Nglewa village in Kablewa rural municipality some 100 kilometres north of Diffa on Sunday.

On resident of the area said that they killed eight young people and an elderly man.

Report says the radical Islamist group, which has killed no fewer than 20,000 people since 2009, kidnaps women to use as servants and sex slaves, while they use men as fighters.
