Boris Johnson loses support from within his own party over plans to suspend parliament

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson is battling to regain the support of his party members after a fall out over his plans to suspend parliament.

On Monday, Johnson sent a message to rebels within his own party, telling them to vote against what he called a “pointless” opposition plan to block his bid to suspend parliament.

As the possibility of a general election edges closer, Johnson is making frantic efforts to regain support of the mostly 22 Conservative MPs thought to be considering voting with opposition figures.

“We will not accept any attempt to go back on our promises or scrub that referendum,” Johnson said. “Armed and fortified with that conviction, I believe we will get a deal at that crucial [European Council] summit in October.”

The development comes two days after thousands of protesters rallied in London outside Downing Street, the official residence of the prime minister, to oppose the controversial move to suspend parliament which is scheduled for early September.
