Buhari meets with security chiefs

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met behind closed doors with service chiefs and heads of security agencies at the State House, Abuja.

The Minister of Defence, Brigadier General Mansur Dan-Ali (rtd), led other security chiefs to the meeting.

In attendance at meeting were the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.

Others at the meeting included Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin, was not present at the meeting.

Some government officials who attended the meeting were the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari; Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha; and the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno.

Though details of the meeting were not made public, it was believed that the security chiefs used the opportunity to brief the president on current security issues in the country.

Nigeria has continued to suffer Boko Haram onslaught despite the current government’s claim that the terrorist group has been technically defeated.

Only few days ago an aid worker with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Hauwa Amina Liman, was executed by the jihadist group.

The group which is still holding Leah Sharibu, one of the over 100 Dapchi, Yobe State school girls it abducted early this year and some others hostage, had earlier threatened to execute Ms Liman and Leah Sharibu should the Federal Government fail to meet up with its demand.
