Buhari resumes blame game, says for 16yrs PDP did nothing on infrastructure

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday continued his blame game on his predecessors, accusing them of failing to invest in infrastructure.

He said for 16 years, between 1999 and 2014, apparently when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was in power, that nothing was allegedly done to improve infrastructure in Nigeria despite the huge resources that accrued to the country under the period.

A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, quoted Buhari as saying this when he received the outgoing British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Arkwright, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The period Buhari referred to was during the administrations of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar’ Adua (late), and Goodluck Jonathan.

“Our focus now is on infrastructure–roads, rail, power, and others. How I wish we had fixed all those when we had money.

“What we earned between 1999 and 2014 is on record, but nothing was done to infrastructure. Now, we are doing a lot more with a lot less resources. And we shall continue to do our best.”

Commending the outgoing High Commissioner for his warm and pleasant disposition, he said, “I always see you all over the place.”

In his response, Arkwright, who has spent over three years in Nigeria, said he visited 30 of the 36 states, and found the people quite enterprising and engaging.

Assuring that the British government would be glad to offer a helping hand as needed in any part of the country, Arkwright thanked Buhari for his support, noting that the relations between Britain and Nigeria had improved tremendously in the past three years.
