INEC PROTEST: I have not received any invitation from the police –Melaye

Justice N. E Maha of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has refused the request of Senator Dino Melaye to order the police out of his residence.

Melaye, in an ex-parte application prayed the court to stop the police who have laid siege on his Abuja residence from arresting him.

Describing the action of the police as a threat to his life, Melaye asked the court to enforce his fundamental human rights.

If granted, the judge could have ruled and granted Melaye’s prayer by ordering the withdrawal of police from his residence, without hearing from the police.

But rather, the judge decided that the substantive matter brought by Melaye be granted accelerated hearing.

The police last week stormed the home of the senator to force his arrest for allegedly shooting a police officer.

The police have vowed not to vacate the premises until the senator is arrested while power and water supply have reportedly been disconnected from the residence.
