SHOCKER! Zamfara APC won’t take part in 2019 elections —INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been warned against compromising its deadline for all congresses and related processes for the election of candidates for various offices for the 2019 general elections.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gave the warning over an alleged move by the electoral body to bend its deadline rule and accommodate candidates from the Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The warning came as a result of the Zamfara APC failure to conduct any congress in the state for the selection of its candidates for the coming general election.

According to PDP, following INEC’s pronouncement, all congresses and related processes for the election of candidates for various offices for the 2019 general elections ended on Sunday.

It argued that since Zamfara failed to conduct any congress, by the provision of the law, it had no candidates in all the elections.

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, stated this in a statement on Monday night.

“The PDP is aware of a clandestine meeting today between topmost officials of INEC and Zamfara State government, where INEC was instructed to manipulate the system and bend the rules to accommodate the APC.

“The PDP cautions the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, over this attempt to manipulate the processes and use underhand measures to liberate the APC from the cul de sac it plunged itself into in Zamfara State.

“We insist that the laws guiding our elections must be upheld, as the PDP will never accept anything short of that,” he said.

He further cautioned that APC and INEC must know that the PDP was at alert regarding all electoral processes.
