D'Tigers overcome Senegal, set up AfroBasket Final withTunisia

Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have made it to the final of the 2017 FIBA Men’s AfroBasket Championship after edging undefeated Senegal in semifinal.

The Nigerian men saw off their Senegalese counterparts 76-71 points on Friday night to reach their second consecutive AfroBasket final.

The Ike Diogu-captained team got in the lead from the very start, coming out 15-12 points on top the first quarter before ending the first half with a 34-29 points lead.

In the third quarter, D’Tigers increased their lead to 52-45 points, and fell two points behind Senegal in the last quarter (24-26) but scaled through in spite of the setback.

Hosts Tunisia had earlier on Friday seen off Morocco 60-52 points to clinch the first final ticket of the competition.

The North Africans are now the only team standing in Nigeria’s way of lifting the title they won two years ago.

The final will be played on Saturday, September 16.
