Fear, anxiety as police, army discover, detonate bombs in Benin city

There is palpable fear and anxiety in Benin, Edo State after an anti-bomb squad in collaboration with some soldiers detonated three bombs found in an uncompleted building in the state capital.

According to reports, the bombs were found at a residential building at Number 3, Alkali Street, off Ekenwan Road and during detonation, residents were asked to leave their houses to safe areas.

Recounting the development, a resident of the area identified as Mrs. Rametu Ineruwa said during the evacuation exercise, one of the bombs detonated and shook many buildings.

She said; “We were surprised when policemen and soldiers came to this area and found some bombs in that building. They asked everybody to go out.”

The incident was confirmed by DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Chidi Nwabuzor who said investigations revealed that the bombs were to be used by a robbery gang to blow up an ATM machine as well as rob banks in the state.
