Frank rattles Oyegun, accuses him of plotting against Tinubu, other party foes

Suspended Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has alleged of a plot by the national chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, to cow those opposing him through his planned amendment of the party’s constitution.

He specifically pointed at national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, himself (Frank) and other party members who oppose his leadership style as those targeted by Oyegun.

Frank said this in a statement he released in Abuja on Thursday, describing the party’s constitution amendment proposed by the national chairman as “a grand plot against Tinubu, myself and other leaders who oppose his leadership style.”

He further alleged that the chairman’s decision was part of the timetable for the party’s second national convention.

Frank was reacting to the setting up of a constitution review committee headed by the party’s National Legal Adviser, Muize Banire, by Odigie-Oyegun on Wednesday with a mandate to closely look at the provisions for disciplining members, which according to him has been the cause of myriads of problems the ruling party has had to contend with since coming into power at the centre.

Frank said, “It was shameful for the National Chairman to talk of indiscipline when he has breached the same constitution more than any other person. His leadership has breached party constitution several times, even as regards the National Convention which the party law states clearly that it must be held every two years.

“Oyegun is talking about indiscipline when there are several allegations of favouritism yet unanswered hanging on his neck.”

Frank, therefore, called on Odigie-Oyegun to disclose to the world how he was going to fill some vacant positions in the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party when “he is talking of a non-elective national convention.”

Frank has remained a consistent critic of Oyegun and has on several occasions called for his resignation. His suspension by the party is seen by many as a result of his unrestrained attacks on Oyegun and his activities in the party.

Tinubu, like Frank had also at a time, following the process that led to the outcome of the Ondo governorship primaries election of the party, which was reportedly marred by several irregularities, also called for Oyegun’s resignation as APC chairman.
