Guardiola congratulates Wigan after third-tier side stun City in FA Cup

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, says he has no regrets with the way his side played in their 1-0 defeat to Wigan in the 5th round of the English FA Cup on Monday night.

The Spaniard congratulated the third-tier club as they successfully qualified for the quarterfinals of the competition, thanks to Will Grigg’s strike 11 minutes from time.

City’s Fabian Delph was given a controversial red card at the stroke of half-time, and the League One side capitalised on the advantage to see off the premier League leaders.

“Congratulations to Wigan for the qualification,” Guardiola said after the game.

“We did absolutely everything, we made a mistake and this kind of game is like a final. OK, we accept the defeat. Congratulations to the winner.

“It was like a final. They had one shot on target, I don’t have regrets with the way we played, the performance, the heart. I judge my players on intentions and not results and the intentions were good.

“Wigan won, congratulations to them and now we rest to prepare for the League Cup final,” he stated.

City will face Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, February 25th.
