Sweden legend and LA Galaxy striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been handed a two-game ban after he grabbed an opposition goalkeeper by the neck.

The 37-year old was booked alongside New York City goalkeeper Sean Johnson after they wrestled each other to the floor during the incident.

The match ended 2-0 in favour of New Yorkers, with the incident taking place four minutes to the end of the clash.

Major League Soccer announced on Friday it was punishing Ibrahimovic for “violent conduct”.

“Zlatan is a talented player – he obviously knows what he is doing. He is a clever boy and you know, it is a part of the game,” goslkeeper Johnson was quoted to have said after the match last Saturday.

“I would be frustrated if I were him too, you know. Can’t blame him for his frustration at that point in the game.”

Ibrahimovic had faced a restrospective action earlier this month when he was fined for diving during Galaxy’s defeat by Columbus Crew on 9 May.

The former Manchester United player was also accused of threatening to hurt Real Salt Lake defender Nedum Onuoha, who said a lot of people were “scared” of Ibrahimovic.
