INEC to hold by-election to replace late Senator Adeleke July 8

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced July 8 to conduct a by-election to replace the late senator Isiaka Adeleke from Osun West Senatorial District.

The announcement was contained in a notice dated Monday June 5, and signed by the administrative secretary of INEC in Osun State, Ademusire E . A.

It reads, ”Consequent upon the provisions of the enabling statutes that bye – elections to fill the declared vacant seat by the National Assembly be conducted within 30 days upon the declaration , take notice that by the directives of the chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Bye Election for Osun West Senatorial seat will hold on Saturday 8 th July 2017.”

Senator Adeleke, who was also a former governor of Osun State, died in controversial circumstance after a brief illness.

His family members and many of his supporters in the state had accused his All Progressives Congress party of poisoning him in order to cut short his ambition to return as the state governor in 2018.

However, an inquest set up by the state Governor Rauf Aregbesola to find out his cause of death, said that he died as a result drug overdose.
