The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday approved the zoning of the party’s national chairman position to the North.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, disclosed this to journalists at the end of the NEC meeting in Abuja.

He said the NEC considered and adopted the report of the zoning committee headed by the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, ahead of the party’s national convention slated for October 30.

The committee had on September 30 recommended the zoning of the party’s chairmanship position to the North.

Ologbondiyan, however, clarified that what was approved by the NEC was not about the executive and legislative positions in the 2023 general elections but the National Working Committee (NWC) positions for the convention.

He said the report of Governor Bala Mohammed’s committee on PDP performance in the 2019 general elections would be considered at another meeting of the NEC.
