Juventus lose at SPAL as Serie A title win is delayed

Serie A leaders, Juventus have been forced to wait a little longer before wrapping up their title triumph after they lost at SPAL on Saturday.

Juve, who could have won their eight consecutive Italian League title with at least a draw over SPAL, were beaten 2-1 by the hosts who came from a goal down.

The champions got off to the best possible start with Moise Kean turning home Joao Cancelo’s wayward shot to put them in front.

Kevin Bonifazi headed in the equaliser just after half-time, before Sergio Floccari scored the winner for the hosts.

It was a first victory for SPAL against Juventus since February 1957 and only a second league defeat of the season for Juve.

Despite the loss, Juventus are 20 points clear of second-placed Napoli, who will take on bottom club Chievo Verona on Sunday.

The Bianconeri will have to wait for next Saturday’s match against Fiorentina, unless Napoli fail to beat Chievo, to win the title.
