In a thrilling Champions League final in Madrid, Premier League giants, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, locked horns on Saturday night, with both teams seeking to make a mark.

Liverpool boss, who had lost six straight finals before the game, made history in his career as a manager, as his side defeated Spurs to win the continental prize.

The Reds won the game 2-0, with the first goal coming in the second minute, when Mohamed Salah converted a penalty from a Moussa Sissoko handball in the box, to put Liverpool ahead.

With Liverpool already heading to their 6th triumph in Europe’s elite club competition, Divock Origi added a late goal in the 87th minute to seal the victory.

The victory marked the end of a losing run for Liverpool, who had lost in the final of the 2007 against AC Milan and the final of 2018 against Real Madrid.

“Did you ever see a team like this, fighting with no fuel in the tank? I am so happy for the boys, all these people and my family. They suffer for me, they deserve it more than anybody,” Klopp said after the game.

Liverpool failed to win the Premier League after they lost the title by a point to Manchester City, but their triumph in Madrid is more than a consolation.

Spurs will go home knowing they reached the final of the Champions League for the first time in their history, even though they failed to win it.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi (12) finishes as the outright leading Champions League goalscorer for the first time since 2011-12 (he was joint-leading scorer with Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo in 2014-15).
