The political crisis rocking Kogi State took another dramatic turn on Tuesday,  as five members of the House of Assembly impeached the speaker, Momoh Jimoh Lawal. The five members were his former supporters.

The new Majority Leader, Hon. Friday Sani, announced to reporters that Lawal had been removed and that 15 members elected Hon. Imam Umar as replacement. However only 4 other members were sighted coming out of the assembly chambers.

He also disclosed that others elected were Hon. John Abba as Chief Whip, while the position of the Deputy Speaker was left vacant.

However, in a swift reaction, Lawal said he is still the speaker, declaring his impeachment as null and void.
