Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho, was happy his side marked their return to the UEFA Champions League with a 3-0 victory over Basel at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
The Portuguese however slammed his players for their many missed chances and complacency in the second half — a display he referred to as playing ‘Playstation football’.
The Red Devils finished sixth in the league last season, but made it to the elite league after securing the Europa league title to crown a successful season.
Goals from Marouane Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford sealed a comfortable win for the home side.
“Three points are important at home. Until 2-0 we were very stable, we played with confidence”, Mourinho said after the win.
“After 2-0 everything changed, we stopped playing seriously and stopped making right decisions. We could have put ourselves in trouble.
“We were playing fantasy football, Playstation football. I don’t like it, flicks and tricks. We gambled and you have to respect your opponent.
“I don’t know if goal difference will play a part. We lost position, our shape, we lost balls in easy situations. I didn’t like it, the players relaxed too much”, he added.
In the other game in Group A, CSKA Moscow came from behind to beat Benfica 2-1 in Portugal.
