Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has dedicated Friday’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier victory over Cameroon to ailing goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme.

Nigeria hosted and thrashed African champions, Cameroon 4-0 b at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, thanks to goals from Odion Ighalo, captain Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and Kelechi Iheanacho.

Rohr, speaking after the match, said he is happy his team did not let Ikeme down.

“We promised to win for Carl and we have done so. He should have been here with us and we know he’s here with us. It was a good game but we are happy we didn’t let him down,” he said.

The Wolverhampton shot stopper, who has been first choice for the Eagles, was diagnosed with acute leukaemia in July, and has since been away from the sport as he battles the ailment.

The 31-year old, who missed out a part of last season due injury, was in the verge of returning to full fitness before the unfortunate diagnosis.

The Nigerian team played with Ikeme at heart, as the Twitter handle of the Eagles wrote during the pre-match conference, “We stand together, in solidarity with our goalkeeper @Carl_Ikeme. We believe he will overcome this challenge and join us again very soon.”

Friday’s victory cemented Nigeria’s place at the top of Group B having won three consecutive games in the qualifying series.

They face Cameroon again at Yaounde on Monday in matchday 4 encounter.

The coach has done well, this is why foreign coaches are better for Nigeria. Local coaches don’t care about their players, only few of the local coaches show concern for injured player like Carl.

We know this, but you don’t have to say it out in a public domain like this. You’re blocking the chances of our local coaches being hired by foreign countries. Praise them instead, Nigerians coaches are good and can definitely get better in showing care and concern.
