Nigerian govt to remove barricade on Lagos-Ibadan highway Sunday

The road barricade around Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway would be removed on December 1 to ease the traffic situation in that axis, a ministry of works official has said.

The Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Mr. Adedamola Kuti, told journalists on Saturday that construction work had been completed on that part of the road.

The road was partially closed on September 2 as part of the ongoing reconstruction work on the federal highway.

Since the closure, plying the Lagos-Ibadan expressway has become a burden for commuters, particularly those residing along the Mowe-Ibafo axis of Ogun State.

A journey of about 15 to 20 minutes now takes more than four hours to undertake.

Kuti said when the contractors return to the site in January, construction work would commence on the outbound-Lagos traffic side of the road.

He said: “Now that inbound has been completed, we don’t want to start work on the outbound and leave it halfway, so we decided to open the road to commuters tomorrow, Sunday, so that people can move freely this Christmas.”
