Notorious Epe kidnap gang arrested

Three suspected members of a notorious kidnap gang in Epe have been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command following a raid.

Reports say the suspected kidnappers namely; Tola Samuel, 26; Fekun Aboy, 23, and Mimo Blessing, 20— were nabbed by a combined team of Anti-Kidnapping and Mobile Policemen of the Lagos Command, while escaping with their share of the ransom.

According to Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, when they were arrested, weapons like four automatic rifles, one locally-made gun, N400,000 cash, three speed boats, several cutlasses and mobile phones allegedly collected from victims were recovered from the suspects.

Recounting how and when he joined the gang, one of the suspects identified as Aboy, who gave the identity of his gang leader as Tallest, said he joined the kidnap gang three months ago. He said: “My first operation was the one involving a female police officer.

“We came out from the creeks in two speed boats and laid ambush at the Molajoye Bridge. Just then, we saw a vehicle carrying five passengers.

“We came out when it got to the bridge, pounced on the passengers and took them into our boats. They were three women and two men.

“We headed to our camp and kept them for five days. It was while we were at the camp that we discovered that one of them was a policewoman,” Aboy said.

Recall that a female Police Sergeant attached to Ketu Division, identified simply as Bola, was abducted last month at Omu-Ijebu, a border town between Lagos and Ogun states, while a lawyer and owner of a farmland in Ogbodu community in Epe were also kidnapped.

Aboy said in the case of the kidnapped Police Sergeant attached to Ketu Division, they collected N200,000 from her and an additional N300,000 from the police woman’s family before they released her.
