Okowa thrashes Ogboru in Delta, wins with over 700,000 votes

Incumbent Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for last Saturday’s governorship election in Delta State has grabbed a landslide victory.

Okowa polled a total vote of 925,274 votes to defeat Chief Great Ogboru of the All Progressive Congress (APC), who came a distant second with 215,938 votes.

The result was announced on Tuesday by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s’ (INEC’s) Returning Officer for the state, Professor Seth Accra-Jaja , Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State.

“ I hereby certify that I was the state Returning Officer for March governorship election.

“The election was keenly contested by different candidates and Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa of the PDP polled a total number of 925,274 votes to defeat his first runner up, Chief Great Ogboru of the All Progressive Congress who polled a total of 215,938 votes,’’ Jaja said.

The commission had on Monday suspended the collation of the state’s results till Monday.

When collation was concluded, Okowa won in 23 out of the 25 local government areas of the state.
