Old questions as Buhari set to embark on yet another medical trip to London

What Buhari will discuss with Trump

President Muhammadu Buhari will be embarking on a medical trip to the United Kingdom on Tuesday.

According to a statement on Monday by his Senior Special  Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the president’s four-day medical trip is at the instance of his doctor.

Shehu said Buhari would return to the country on Saturday.

The statement read, “President Muhammadu Buhari will tomorrow (Tuesday) undertake a four-day trip to the United Kingdom.

“In the course of the technical stop-over for aircraft maintenance in London on his way back from Washington last week, the President had a meeting with his doctor.

“The doctor requested the President to return for a meeting which he agreed to do. “President Buhari will return on Saturday, May 12th.

“On his return, the President’s two-day State visit to Jigawa, which was postponed because of the All Progressives Congress’ Ward Congresses, will now take place on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th May.”

Speculation was rife only days ago that President Buhari may have embarked on a secret medical trip to London following an initially undisclosed stopover in London from Washington after an official visit to the White House at the instance of President Donald Trump. Following news reports of the development, the presidency had then declared that it was a “technical stopover”.

Many Nigerians have remained concerned about President Buhari’s health after his two separate controversial prolonged stays in London on medical vacation which prompted widespread calls for his resignation or impeachment.

The persistent questions about Buhari’s health, especially around his exact illness, cost and responsibility for payment for his treatment and the decision to seek treatment abroad, will be set to continue in light of this development, more so as he has put himself up for reelection.
