One dead, three wounded after deadly shooting in US Synagogue

A 19-year-old suspect named John Earnest has been arrested after opening fire at a synagogue in California on Saturday killing one person with other people injured.

This came in exactly six months after a shooting in Pittsburgh in which a gunman named Robert Gregory Bowers opened fire and killed 11 people while 7 were injured.

The synagogue had been hosting a Passover celebration when the gunman burst in at Poway, north of the city of San Diego, BBC reports.

San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore told reporters that investigators were reviewing the suspect’s social media activity and examining a virulently anti-Semitic open letter published online.

“During the shooting, four individuals were wounded and transported to Palomar hospital,” Sheriff Gore said. “One succumbed to their wounds. The other three are in stable condition.”

However, US president Donald Trump who reacted to the killing, described it as a hate crime.
