RIVERS: Gunmen kill 2, abduct community leader

Pandemonium struck in the Rundele, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State when yet-to-be identified gunmen killed two persons and abducted a community leader

According to reports, the incident occurred following the staging of a hunting expedition in the community which later ended in a clash between two rival cults in Mgbuelia village of Rundele.

Alex Ibani, a resident of Rundele who witnessed the incident said that after the clash between the rival cult groups, some unidentified men invaded the community and whisked away its leader Chief Goodluck Umentor at some minutes past 10p.m.

Ibani said: “The problem started Sunday, when the village celebrated its cultural festival of hunting expedition. Two cult gangs clashed in the process which led to the murder of two persons.

“This (Monday) evening, we just heard gunshots only to discover that a recognized chief has been kidnapped,” he added.

The incident was confirmed by DSP Nnamdi Omoni, spokesman for Rivers State Police Command who revealed that contact has been established between the family and the abductors while he also assured that the command was doing everything to release the abducted victim alive.
