Rotimi Amaechi caught in the hunter’s trap

Published

By Joseph Edgar . . .
This Rotimi Amaechi’s Senate screening in my mind may be his albatross. All the rules of the Senate if followed to the letter only goes to show that he just may not win, this time. His state is ruled by the opposing party, his governor is in a war of attrition with him, he has a petition on his neck, and a white paper recommending his prosecution already at the Senate and three Senators from the State are opposing him. How he would be cleared remains to be seen.
Try as I can, I can’t help but think that his problems could be found with the APC, a party he laboured so hard to ensure they won at the polls. I think sincerely that it is his party that has exposed him to this hubris deliberately. Or how do you explain why they could not give him a position that did not need to go through Senate screening at least for now.
They should have looked for a powerful position within the Presidency for him knowing fully well that he would just not be able to pass through a volatile and unfriendly Senate. To me, this is them saying, ‘well, we have done our part, we have nominated you into the cabinet, go and sort yourself out at the Senate, that one is out of our control.’

If that is the case, then it would be very pitiable, because Amaechi like no one else fought for this victory. Most of the funds he is being accused of stealing today may have found their way into the campaign, for we all knew how that campaign was funded. He should not be left to suffer and should not be left in the cold like this.
His candidacy should be immediately withdrawn and a befitting post that does not require Senate clearance be created for him otherwise it would really be sad if he is allowed to be messed up by the Senate for a sin he committed while helping bring change to our country.
