Salah, Van Dijk score as Liverpool thrash Norwich in EPL season opener

Egypt star, Mohamed Salah found the back of the net for Liverpool in their Premier League season opener against Norwich at Anfield on Friday.

Also on the score sheet for the hosts were defender Virgil van Dijk and Divock Origi as they secured a 4-1 victory over the newly promoted side.

The Reds got ahead early in the game when captain Grant Hanley slashed in an own goal from Origi’s cross in the 7th minute.

Salah then opened his account by adding a second with a low finish in the 19th minute after a pass by Roberto Firmino.

Van Dijk headed in the third on 28 minutes, before Origi made it 4-0 in a thrilling first half.

The first half also saw Reds keeper Alisson taken off injured.

The Brazilian was replaced by new signing Adrian after he slipped while taking a goal-kick.

Norwich put up a better fight in the second half, and successfully reduced the deficit through Teemu Pukki’s composed finish.

“There is a lot of space for improvement we know that but a lot of things were there tonight. The next game is a different game and we have to defend well.

“The main problem today was the reaction on the second balls. All respect to Norwich if they can keep playing like that they will have a good future,” said Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool face Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.
