Gunmen attack HoS Chief Accountant, snatch N9.5m
In what is akin to the invasion of a community in the Ikorodu axis of Lagos State, gunmen, numbering about 100, have invaded Fatoki community in the Egan, Igando area of the state in a three-day onslaught.
During the attacks, the gunmen, who are suspected to be militants, reportedly shot three people, looting shops and homes in the community.
Sources in the community said items such as drinks, generators, television sets, refrigerators, laptops and phones were carted during the three-day operation before returning through the waterways to the creeks through which they entered the community.
The Fatoki community is bordered by water.
According to a resident, the community had been peaceful until two months ago.
He said: “A man had run out of the creek in broad daylight, naked and scared. He was stopped by our security men. We thought he was mad, but upon interrogation, he said he was kidnapped by the militants and they had just released him. We called his relatives and they confirmed his story.
“Three days ago, they stormed the community in the morning, shooting at the junction. They injured three people and looted shops.”
The gunmen were said to have returned to the community on Tuesday at about 12 noon, ordering everybody to lie down, while carting away money and other valuables.
The gunmen, who were said to have worn red masks, reportedly spoke in English while a few spoke Yoruba.
Confirming the attack, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, said two suspects had already been arrested.
She said, “The command received the report at the early hours of today (Thursday). We gathered that some militants attacked the community. The Igando Divisional Police Officer led operatives to the scene and upon sighting the policemen, the militants fled; but two of them were arrested. The arrest led to the recovery of ammunition.
