Troops of the Operation Hadarin Daji on Saturday neutralised about 10 bandits terrorising residents of Zamfara and Sokoto states, the Defence Headquarters said in a statement on Sunday.

According to a statement by the Defence Headquarters, about 18 kidnapped victims were rescued during an operation at the hideouts of the bandits.

This was disclosed by the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche.

According to Enenche, the troops, in a ground and air operation closed up on bandits in a subsidiary operation called Operation Chingaba along Maru-Dansadau axis killing nine bandits.

The rescued victims included 10 men, four women and four minors.

Similarly, a gun runner known as Alhaji was killed during a string operation at Isah Road close to Sarwa Village in Isah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Enenche explained that Alhaji’s men opened fire on troops at the point of his arrest, leading to his death. His men were said to have fled with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.

“Troops recovered one General Purpose Machine Gun PKT, 140 rounds of 12.7mm, 43 blank ammunition and one motorcycle”, Enenche.
