The ongoing partial government shutdown in the US has reached a record 22nd day becoming the longest in history with President Donald Trump warning of a longer impasse.

Reports say no talks are scheduled anytime soon after a congress adjourned for the weekend with Trump heaping the blame on Democrats for the partial government shutdown which has slipped into record books.

“We will be out for a long time unless the Democrats come back from their ‘vacations’ and get back to work,” he tweeted.

Trump’s comments are coming two days after he threatened to declare a state of emergency after his failure to get $5.7bn funding to build a wall along the US-Mexico border.

Trump issued the threat moments before flying to the Texas border with Mexico to try to bolster his case that the country is facing a crisis which can only be solved by spending billions of dollars to construct a wall.
