TURKEY: Police nabs 49 people with alleged links to ISIS

Turkish police have arrested no less than 49 people suspected to have links with Islamic State Group (ISIS).

According to Turkish news agency, the suspects were picked up for planning “sensational attacks” in the run-up to Sunday’s referendum on increasing the powers of the president.

Reports say the suspects were arrested after police conducted simultaneous operations in seven Istanbul districts following a tip-off by a concerned member of the public.

Recall that IS called for attacks against the referendum in its Arabic and Turkish publications this month, arguing that voting is opposing God and branding Muslim voters as “disbelievers.”

Majority of the suspects, about fourty-one of them, who according to security sources are also connected to the perpetrators of the New Year’s nightclub attack in Istanbul, were foreigners.
