Unbeaten D’Tigers see off CAR to qualify for 2019 FIBA World Cup in China

Nigeria men’s basketball team, D’Tigers have qualified for the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China after defeating Central Africa Republic 114-69 in Surulere on Saturday night.

The victory over CAR at the Indoor Sports hall of the National Stadium in Lagos extended the winning streak of the Nigerian men to 8-0 in the qualifiers.

The Alex Nwora side dominated play from start to finish winning all four quarters 25-20, 26-19, 37-21 and 26-9, to become the first team to qualify for the China tournament.

Al-Farouq Aminu was the team’s most effective player as he scored 12 points, eight rebound, five assists and three steal, followed by Ikenna Iroegbu, who scored 18 points in the encounter.

Stan Okoye scored 11 points and five rebounds and four steals while Alade Aminu also posted 11 points.

The team will take on Senegal in their final qualifying game in the second round window on Sunday at the National Stadium.

The FIBA Men’s World Cup will take place between 31 Aug to 15 Sep 2019.
