USA: Violent tornado ravages Missouri’s capital causing heavy damage

Missouri’s capital, Jefferson City, is picking up the pieces early Thursday after being hit by a violent tornado overnight.

According to the National Weather Service, there were no reports of fatalities in the city but authorities had received multiple calls of people being trapped in homes.

According to sources, the National Weather Service also said it had received 22 reports of tornadoes by late Wednesday, although some of those could be duplicate reporting of the same twister.

At least 29 tornadoes have been reported over the past 24 hours, mostly in Missouri and Oklahoma, the National Weather Service said. A total of 171 have been reported since Friday.

However, no deaths had been reported as of Thursday morning, Jefferson City police Lt. David Williams told Associated press.
