A prominent chief prosecutor in Zimbabwe has appeared in court for allegedly dropping charges in a case against people accused of planning to bomb President Robert Mugabe’s dairy products company.

The accused Attorney General Johannes Tomana denied charges of obstructing the cause of justice over the alleged bomb plot on the milk production plant run by Mugabe’s wife, Grace.

Tomana was brought to the Harare magistrate court in the back of a police pick-up truck alongside four other army officers charged with treason.

Reports say the prosecutor told the court that the four army officers were allegedly caught with firearms and sought to get bombs designed to blow up the dairy.

The army officers were also accused of allegedly setting up a military camp and also forming a political party which they called the Zimbabwe People Front.

The Attorney General was accused of dropping charges against two of the four army officers.
