  1. ‘Buhari more interested in the survival of APC than the survival of democracy’ —PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday charged President Muhammadu Buhari to address the challenges of electoral violence, killings and alteration of election results rather dissipating energy to dismiss the alleged third term plot. 2. Adoke writes INTERPOL, Malami; demands release from detention

In a bid to secure his release from detention in Dubai, lawyers to the immediate past Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke, have written the International Police Organization (INTERPOL) and his successor in office, Abubakar Malami. It would be recalled that the former minister was on November 11 arrested in Dubai where he had been on self exile since 2015. Read more

3. MONEY LAUNDERING: See the charges against Air Peace chief, Allen Onyema

The United States Department of Justice said Friday it had indicted the Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, in bank fraud and money laundering. However, Onyema has denied the charges and described the allegations as false. He said in a statement early on Saturday that the allegations were not in any way related to his “character as a person and businessman.” Read more

4. P&ID AWARD: Nigerian govt agrees to pay $200m security deposit

The Federal Government has finally agreed to pay the security deposit ordered by Justice Christopher Butcher of the Commercial Court in London for a stay of execution of the judgement handed down in the dispute between it and a firm, Process and Industrial Development (P&ID), the firm said in a statement on Saturday. Nigeria is appealing the judgement of an arbitration panel which awarded the payment of $9.6 billion in damages against the country and in favour of the company. P&ID made this known in a statement issued by Chris Rogers, the Associate Director, In-House, London, the media firm that represents P&ID. Read more

5. APC a threat to Nigeria’s democracy —PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has labelled the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Federal Government as threats to the nation’s democracy following last Saturday’s governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi. The party insisted that the Kogi West Senatorial re-run election would not be any different from the governorship polls, saying as long as the figures in the main election were fundamentally flawed, the proposed rerun could not reflect the wishes of the electorate. 6. Lagos-Ibadan rail project to be ready by April 2020 —Amaechi

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, said Saturday that the Federal Government would deliver the Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail line by April next year. Amaechi stated this while speaking to journalists at the end of the project inspection tour onboard the train from Iju to Ibadan. The minister, who noted that the Lagos axis of the project had been challenging due to urbanisation, said the contractor had made significant improvement in the construction of train stations. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has ordered full-scale investigation into last Thursday’s mysterious death of a family of three in the North Bank area of Makurdi town. One Gregory Indyor, his wife and five-year-old son were on Thursday night found dead in their residence without any clue on the cause of their death. Read more

8. Nigerian govt moves to revive Enugu coal mines

The Federal Government has said it is ready to revive the coal mines in Enugu State so as to enable them to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country. The Minister of State, Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Ogah, revealed this on Friday in Enugu when he visited the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the Government House, Enugu, with a team from the ministry. 9. Borno recruits 150 Cameroonians to tackle Boko Haram

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara, Saturday recruited 150 Cameroonian vigilantes to flush out remnants of Boko Haram insurgents from the state. The Cameroonian vigilantes are expected to collaborate with Nigerian hunters and vigilantes working with the military in the counter-insurgency operations in the state. Read more

Gunmen suspected to be ‘herdsmen’ Saturday reportedly killed an unspecified number of people during an attack on Shuws-Kala’a village in Adamawa.
