1. Suit seeking to stop Senate from spending N5.5bn on vehicles based on mere rumour – Adeyeye

The Senate on Monday described a suit seeking to stop it from spending N5.5 billion on the purchase of vehicles for its principal officers as an exercise in futility. According to the spokesman of the Senate, Dayo Adeyeye, the suit is a mere waste of time because it is based on a non-existent cause.

2. OGUN: Doctors begin indefinite strike

Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors, Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, Ogun State, on Monday announced the commencement of an indefinite strike. The action, they said, is due to depreciation in doctors’ health in recent times.

The Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA) has threatened to blow up oil installations in the region if the supervision of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NNDC) is taken away from the Niger Delta Ministry. In a statement on Monday by the General Commanding Officer, Johnmark Ezon-Ebi, the group warned that any attempt by the federal government to change the status-quo, will be met with stiff resistance regardless of the negative impact on the economy of the country.

4. NYSC reveals when increment of Corps members’ allowance will be paid

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has assured of increase in the monthly allowance of corps members “immediately the Federal Government starts the payment of the new minimum wage.” The NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, stated this on Monday while assuring corps members nationwide that efforts were being made to ensure adequate welfare.

6. MOSQUE DEMOLITION: Sharia Council warns of grave danger over Wike’s ‘desperate wickedness’

The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria, on Monday, came hard on Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, for ordering the demolition of a Jumaat mosque in Port Harcourt. The council also warned of grave consequences if federal executive and legislative authorities failed to nip the developing crisis in the bud, while calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to step in “so as to prevent a breakdown of law and order.”

7. APC condemns Niger Delta govs over comments on composition of NDDC Board

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Monday lashed at governors of the Niger Delta over the reconstitution of the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The party described the governors’ comments on the issue as shameful and disgraceful, asking the governors to concentrate on delivering the dividends of democracy to their people.

8. ZAMFARA: Drama as party chieftain returns to APC, 3 weeks after defecting to PDP

A dramatic scene played out in the city of Gusau, Zamfara State when a former lawmaker, Alhaji Manir Gidanjaja, who defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) three weeks ago, returned to the All Progressive Congress (APC). According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Gidanjaja had on August. 8 announced his defection to PDP, but returned to the APC on Monday, during the party’s stakeholders meeting held at the residence of former governor, Abdul’aziz Yari, located in Talata-Mafara area of the state.

10. Police foil bandits’ attack on Katsina community

The timely arrival of the Police officers attached to Operation Puff Adder saved the people of Tashar Kadanya village in the Batsaro Local Government Area of Katsina State after bandits invaded the village in the early hours of Monday. They were said to have arrived at the village about 3am and rustled 10 cows, but security operatives, who engaged them, recovered the cows from them.
