Serena Williams has advanced to the third round of the ongoing Australian Open after seeing off Eugenie Bouchard in second round on Thursday.

The American 16th seed made a rapid start on her way to a 6-2 6-2 victory over the 2014 Wimbledon finalist.

“It wasn’t an easy match – Genie has been to final of Wimbledon and other Grand Slam semi-finals.

“I’ve not had many matches since last year but it is OK,” Williams said.

Williams, 37, will continue her quest for a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title when she faces Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska in the third round.
