A late goal by Son Heung-Min has helped Tottenham move into second in the Premier League and denied Newcastle at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

The South Korean forward benefitted from a Martin Dubravka error with seven minutes left on the clock to seal a 1-0 victory.

Newcastle were well organised and gritty throughout, but the defeat means they stay on 14th spot on the table, pending when the rest of the weekend matches are played.

Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino said after the game: “It was so tough to break down a team like Newcastle. That showed the belief and the capacity of the team to get the result. The character we are showing is fantastic.”

Tottenham now set a Premier League record as they reached 29 matches in a row without a draw, eclipsing Bolton’s mark of 28 set in 2011.

They are now above third-placed Manchester City by one point and are just four points adrift leaders, Liverpool.
