The Super Sand Eagles of Nigeria were thrashed 10-1 by Portugal in the opening game of their 2019 Beach Soccer World Cup ongoing in Paraguay.

The defeat was Nigeria’s heaviest defeat in Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup history, and it was the worst result for the Super Sand Eagles in any competition since their 12-6 loss to Italy at the 2017 World Cup in Bahamas.

The Portuguese, on Friday evening, came from behind to defeat the Sand Eagles and establish a dominant early lead in Group D.

Nigeria took the lead through Azeez Abu’s assured finish at the very end of the first period, but then it was all Portugal from there.

The Selecção das Quinas went on to score an incredible ten unanswered goals, with five each in the second and third periods.

The Eagles had opportunities but were not clinical enough. They still have a chance to make things right when they take on Oman in their next game on Sunday.
