Kelechi Iheanacho is set to handle the No.10 role usually played by team captain Mikel Obi as Nigeria’s Super Eagles battle Poland in an international friendly on Friday, a source in camp revealed.

The pre-World Cup encounter which holds at the Municipal Stadium in Wroclaw, Poland will not feature Mikel, who is battling to renew his work permit in China.

However, the Tianjin Teda star is expected to join up with the squad in London ahead of the team’s next friendly against Serbia next week Tuesday.

Iheanacho, who curled in a brilliant free-kick as Nigeria came from a goal down to beat Argentina 4-2 in a friendly last November, could now play in the midfield as the Eagles kickstart their World Cup preparation.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich star, Robert Lewandowski will be leading the line, and also as captain of the team, for Poland in a 3-4-2-1 formation.

Juventus goalkeeper Wojiech Szczęsny is also expected to be in goal against the Super Eagles ahead of Swansea City’s Lukasz Fabianski.

The Eagles will look to tame Polish regulars like Łukasz Piszczek, Maciej Rybus, Thiago Cionek and Kamil Glik who are also expected to be in the starting lineup for the hosts.

The match will kick off at 8.45pm Nigerian time on Friday night.
