Juventus beat Lazio to win Coppa Italia

Italian giants Juventus secured the first triumph of a possible domestic and European treble with a 2-0 victory against Lazio Roma in the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday night.

Juve went ahead when Dani Alves’s side-footed volley bounced into the corner 12 minutes into the game, before Leonardo Bonucci sealed the victory when he prodded in on 24 minutes, and Lazio could not get back into the game.

“We have to compliment the lads for a great game, an extraordinary first half and Lazio deserve compliments for their entire campaign,” Juve boss Max Allegri said after the victory.

“The first half had a very high tempo and we made the most of our chances, so we did well defending in the second half.”

The Serie A leaders are just one point from clinching their sixth successive Scudetto this weekend when they face Crotone at home.

“Now we have another important game against Crotone to finish off the title,” Allegri continued.

“It’ll be tough against Crotone, we need one victory and on Sunday it’ll be the decisive match of the season, so we need all our fans there. We have to play with the same determination we showed tonight.”

Winning the Coppa Italia on Wednesday night meant Juve have become the first side to win the competition three times in a row.
