Kenya boils as cops gun down 2 opposition supporters

Turmoil and social strife continued in the western part of Kenya when two opposition supporters demanding reforms ahead of fast approaching elections were gunned down by policemen.

Reports say the incident which claimed the lives of the two victims happened when angry opposition supporters hurled rocks at a police station, while officers used tear gas on demonstrators.

Sam Oguma, who witnessed the incident said; “One person had his head shattered by a bullet while the other was hit on the chest.”

There were also reports of clashes in the town of Bondo, the rural home of opposition leader Raila Odinga, where a large crowd on Friday confronted officers outside the police station, with live shots fired by cops.

24-hours ago, the mounting political turmoil in the East African country forced authorities to ban protests in central Nairobi and other hotspots as the re-scheduled political re-run fast approaches.

Reports say the order also covered the opposition stronghold of Kisumu and the port of Mombasa – the scenes of repeated demonstrations since the Supreme Court annulled the last vote in August, citing irregularities.
